Surgical facilities expansion

Scafit were engaged to provide an access and weather protection solution at Palmerston North Hospital for the expansion of their surgical facilities. During the $27.5m project Scafit faced many challenges. However, by using a combination of Layher systems and clever thinking, they overcame the obstacles.

Scafit’s Luke Mainwaring explains “with no access allowed through the hospital building, we constructed roof top walkways using Layher Allround, and combined pneumatic castors with Layher tube pallets for our client to move material and rubbish in and out of the hospital.

“The use of Layher’s scaffold design service helped Scafit to minimise unnecessary gear being brought onto site. Scaffold designs also gave confidence to our client providing a visual model of what we were proposing to execute.

Luke continued “this project presented us with many challenges and ever-changing job scopes. However, with the help of a GEDA 1200 hoist, Layher Keder Roof XL and Layher scaffolding systems, our dedicated team was able to deliver a job to be proud of, and one which our client was really impressed with.”

To conclude Luke said “I am impressed with the diversity and great attitude from Scafit’s Leading Hands and Operations Manager Kiel Collins, who always delivered solutions to keep this project moving forward as safely and quickly as possible.”
