Merck Sharp and Dohme weather protection
DIALOG Fitzroy were contracted to provide full access and weather protection for an industrial building located in Upper Hutt, north of Wellington.
Dean Simons, Project Manager at DIALOG Fitzroy, said “the contract required both internal and external access, along with partial encapsulation to allow weather protection, of Merck Sharp & Dohme’s processing plant at their Upper Hutt site.”
27.5m roof span
“We constructed the scaffold using Layher’s Allround modular scaffolding system. The Layher Keder Roof XL spanned 27.5m and was designed to roll back, allowing building materials to be easily craned, exactly where they were needed,” said Dean
Dean continued “during construction it very quickly became apparent that the level of congestion onsite, along with the civil work being completed concurrently, there was no room available to erect the scaffold as per the original design. With the help from Layher’s design team, and the CPEng at Worley, we were able to fabricate and install brackets along with 360 × 58 UB’s to enable the scaffold to be picked up off the ground, which in turn allowed the schedule of the project to run as per plan.”
Rolling roof
With regards to the rolling Keder XL Roof System, a trial movement left the client with no questions as to whether the right design had been selected. The roof rolled with ease and allowed ample room for the cranage and installation of structural steel along with spools of piping etc.
Dean added “since its erection, this rolling roof has been opened and closed multiple times with never an issue and every time it leaves the client and other contractors on site singing our praises regarding the amazing solution, we have been able to provide.”
To conclude, Dean said “as always, an efficient design was key to delivering the build on time. The Layher engineering team provided extensive support which assisted in this complicated build.”
