Rolling Temporary Roof

The Mount Pleasant Community Centre project in Christchurch required a special temporary roofing solution. Camelspace were commissioned for the job in a high wind location by Leighs Construction. A complex construction methodology meant the retractable roof had to be constructed millimetre perfect. Consequently Camelspace built a mock-up in the client’s warehouse.

Free standing scaffold

“This not only meant it ‘worked’ on site but also saved a lot of time during the in-situ build” says Camelspace’s Christchurch branch manager, Shane Brazier. “We designed a free standing scaffold using the Layher Keder Rolling Roof to withstand 300km per hour winds; 220 tonne of ballast, 300 strops and chain twitches were used to hold the structure down. Three large birdcages were built inside the building to be used as falsework to sit the roof on until it was all knitted together” he said.

Great equipment

Shane commented “The Keder Rolling Roof was a great piece of equipment to have added to our already large inventory of Layher Allround and event components. The client loved the solution and mentioned they would have no hesitation in employing it again in the future, given it has proven such a success.”
