Scaffolding the Hawke’s Bay Regional Aquatic Centre

Rocket Scaffolding were contracted to provide safe access for roofing and acoustic installation at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Aquatic Centre. The aquatic centre is the home of swimming and water sports in Hawke’s Bay, with multiple state-of-the-art facilities all under one roof.

Todd Price, from Rocket Scaffolding said “this complex scaffolding was designed to allow contractors to work uninterrupted, under and around the scaffolding, while roofing material and acoustic installation was completed on top.”

“The cantilevered design allowed for a reduction in gear used, as well as allowing access for installation of both plumbing and pool walls. Cantilevers from the main scaffold were also installed around the perimeter for edge protection and working platforms, in certain areas. A total exceeding 200t of Layher Allround Scaffolding including 3,495 decks were used to complete this build spanning. The completed scaffold measured 80m x 43m and stood an average of 10m tall” concluded Todd.

The contractor commented “right from the tender stage of the Aquatic Centre Project Rocket Scaffolding gave us confidence to run with the system they were proposing. With a construction programme of 19 months to complete the $30m facility we simply had to have all the high level works running in parallel with the work on the ground. To enable this Apollo supplied IFC models for the structure, both pools, and the pool water pipe work. Rocket went to work modelling and creating a scaffold that not only was fully functional for all the trades using the scaffold but also allowed the safe movements of machinery and construction of the pools and associated services below.”

Hawke’s Bay Regional Aquatic Centre was officially opened by The Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern Prime Minister of New Zealand on 11 August 2022.
