Merchant Quarter Apartment Block
Located in New Lynn, Auckland the Merchant Quarter is the first prefabricated timber apartment block to be built in New Zealand. All timber internal and external walls, and floors were made in Nelson, shipped up to Auckland and craned into place. The entire project lasted 28 weeks.
Mick Curran of Upright Access Systems said “we used Layher Allround Scaffolding for its flexibility and adaptability. One of the key engineering issues was anchoring the scaffold, as there was nothing to drill into. We were instructed by the customer to use ties sparingly.”
Mick continued, “what made the job really challenging was the elevations where the scaffold was 12m high, (5 floors up), coming out off steel beams. So we did have some discussions about the need for more ties in these areas!”
