Cost-effective cantilever solution using Layher FlexBeams

When Brazier Scaffolding were approached to scaffold Invercargill’s HWR building, it quickly became clear that a practical cantilever solution would be required. Rather than assembling scaffolding from the ground around the entire structure, the team looked for a smarter approach that would reduce labour and material while still delivering safe and efficient access.

Working together with Layher’s engineering team, Brazier Scaffolding developed an effective solution using Layher FlexBeams in combination with Layher’s Allround Lightweight Scaffolding.

Innovative FlexBeam solution

Layher FlexBeams provided the strength and flexibility needed to extend from the building while supporting the scaffold structure above. The FlexBeams formed the cantilevered support, while Layher’s Allround Lightweight Scaffolding was used to construct the working platforms and access structure.

By cantilevering the scaffold over the building instead of building ground-supported scaffolding across the entire footprint, the team significantly reduced the amount of material and assembly time required on site.

“Layher FlexBeams were an innovative solution that saved us time and money. The FlexBeams allowed us to cantilever over the building instead of having to scaffold the entire structure. This saved us a huge amount of time and labour costs.”

Engineering support from design to delivery

Layher’s engineering team worked closely with Brazier Scaffolding during the tender and design process to ensure the scaffold design met all structural and safety requirements.

The combination of Layher FlexBeams and Layher’s Allround Lightweight Scaffolding enabled Brazier Scaffolding to deliver a practical solution that was efficient to build, structurally reliable, and well suited to the project’s access needs.

“Layher worked closely with us during the tender and design process to ensure the scaffold met all requirements.”
– Glen Brazier

The finished scaffold demonstrates how integrating specialist components like FlexBeams with a modular scaffold system can solve complex access challenges while reducing time and cost on site.
