Full encapsulation for re-roofing on an exposed site
Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding were tasked with encapsulating an entire house on a prominent site overlooking Coromandel Town. The site was open to the elements from every angle, requiring a robust temporary weather protection solution that would allow the builder to work across the entire roof area at once.
To meet these requirements, Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding delivered a fully enclosed scaffold and temporary roof structure using Layher Allround Lightweight Scaffolding and the Keder Roof XL System.
Flexible system supports total roof access
The builder requested the ability to work on the full roof area in a single stage. To create this large, uninterrupted working area, Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding installed three large lattice beams, laced together and positioned 500 mm above the ridge line at the change of roof direction.
This configuration enabled the creation of a protective roofed structure which, when combined with sheet wall components, expanded into a fully weatherproof encapsulated cover. Roofing works could then be undertaken entirely within the structure.
“We chose Layher gear because of ease of use. It’s a quick system to erect and dismantle, plus it is much safer for our staff using the tarps for the roof and walls, and it reduces the need for shrinkwrap single-use product.” – Sean King

Designed for exposed, high wind conditions
The headland location placed the structure in an extra high wind zone. An external engineer calculated that the scaffold would require 50 tonnes of ballast to meet site-specific loading requirements.
Layher Allround Lightweight Scaffolding and Keder Roof XL Systems were selected to support this robust solution, with the system design developed in collaboration between Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding Ltd, Layher NZ’s engineering team, and the external engineer responsible for sign-off.
“We felt confident in the engineering and gear on such an exposed site. Layher Scaffolding and Keder Roof XL Systems were chosen as they facilitated a robust solution.” – Sean King

Design support and green construction benefits
Layher’s local design service played a key role in supporting the planning and approval process. The preliminary plan provided by Layher was supplied directly to the chartered engineer, helping streamline coordination and site setup.
“Having the Layher design service was a great help. The preliminary plan made it easy to give to the chartered engineer. The auto desk viewer 3D made it easy on site to erect scaffold. This was our first big job using the system, and Layher personnel were very supportive with knowledge and time.” – Sean King
Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding prefer the Keder Roof XL System for its green construction capability. The reusable Keder Roof XL and wall sheets reduce reliance on single-use materials and allow the system to be used repeatedly across a wide range of projects.
Being quick, economical, reusable, and easy to assemble, the system helps Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding respond to the diverse weather protection requirements common across the Coromandel Peninsula, from repairs and re-roofing through to renovations.
