Stockton Mine Scaffold
Stockton Mine owned by Solid Energy NZ Ltd, on the west coast of the South Island, is New Zealand's largest opencast coalmine, and has been the site of coal extraction since the late 1870s. The mine was extended last year with a $100m redevelopment programme to extend the life of the mine.

Nayland Scaffold were contracted to scaffold the existing coal receiving bin at Stockton Mine, while working on another project at the mine. This building was reroofed and the cladding on the rear wall replaced.

"It took four guys three days to build the scaffold, including a 13m access bridge, from an existing roadway for easier access," said Jonny Benbow, Scaffold Manager, Nayland Scaffold & Crane.

The scaffold was also used to gain access to the inside of the building for repair work.
