Sydney Festival 2007 has now come and gone and this year Butlers Hire and Pipeline
Rigging helped Layher play its part in the
main Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera
House.
The creators of Stomp put together an
orchestra of Lost and Found instruments
and specified Layher All-round for their
four tiered stage and surrounding towers.
Lost and Found comprised of 50 performers
playing instruments like a bed turned into a
double bass, rubbish chute drums, a string
section made from saws and water bottle
xylophones. One challenge we faced was
keeping a 7m high free standing run from
moving when 5 swinging trapeze artists
leapt from it to play suspended tubes in the
middle of the Concert Hall.
The scaffold couldn't move an inch as any
change in distance to the suspended tubes
would change the tempo of the piece. This
wasn't a problem for the Butler and Pipeline
boys, it didn't move a millimeter.
At the end of opening night the Opera House
Director commented that this was the best
stage set up he had seen in the Concert Hall
for as long as he can remember. Once again
Layher hit all the right chords.
Thanks to Clinton from Pipeline and David
from Butlers for the photo.
