Major Reconstructive Surgery

Wellington Hospital is undergoing surgery of its own as it is extensively upgraded. The $265 million five year project is one of the largest construction projects ever for Wellington and includes a new 47,830mē hospital building as well as refurbishment of 15,622mē of existing space. The original decorative fascias and archways of the main entrance have been preserved, along with more than 80km of native timber which will be recycled as furniture and joinery.

Such a massive project requires equally large quantities of scaffolding. Pyradeck Scaffolds, subcontracting to Fletcher Construction, provided the falsework (propping) to support the floors as they were laid and Layher SpeedyScaf and Allround for the facade.
